Etaad can repeat last year's win

 Jan 12 2017

The Handicap may not be the classiest race live on Sky Racing on Friday night but throws up an interesting runner as Etaad looks to repeat last year's win in the same race.

The Gary Moore-trained Etaad has managed four wins from 17 starts on an all-weather surface with his most recent success coming in last year's renewal. That race was run at an unsuitably slow pace and he had to use all his superior ability to quicken from the back under a fine George Baker ride. Indeed horse and jockey have only teamed up on four occasions but that has yielded two of Etaad's career wins and they will be reunited again on Friday.

Another key stat here is the drop in grade from class five to six as this is the six-year-old's first run back at a level in which since moving to Moore's stable he has won three from five at.

There is arguably a lack of pace again on Saturday with only Nonchalent a recognised front-runner. Nonchalent has successfully switched to forceful tactics on his last two runs at this level including a latest Wolverhampton win under an excellent Aled Beech ride which provided trainer Hugo Froud a breakthrough Flat win. The six-year-old has generally raced over further and takes a further step back in trip of a furlong and a half (300 metres). He will have to be able to prove he's equally effective at it but it could also mean that he needs to set a decent tempo which would suit Etaad. Either way Etaad's class saw him through last year and he looks to have a great chance to repeat the dose off a pound lower mark.
