Kaspersky looks to seal Cox Plate entry

 Aug 17 2017

Jane Chapple-Hyam has long had Australian targets for Kaspersky and it is hoped that a win in the Group 2 contest would get an invite for the Cox Plate itself.

A win is certainly not out of the question and he looks to be value for the Hungerford Stakes as he heads off the back of two huge runs in the UK.

Martin Harley rode the six-year-old to a fine second in the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot following his fifth under Payne behind Ribchester in the Group 1 Queen Anne at Royal Ascot.

In the Summer Mile he switched to the same front-running tactics he employed when a multiple Group winner for Endo Botti and over this slightly shorter distance he could be hard to peg back.

In opposition will be 10 runners which include recent Group 2 Lennox Stakes winner Breton Rock (who won this in 2014) and the 1000 Guineas third Daban. However it is Dean Ivory’s Librisa Breeze who will undoubtedly attract support.

The five-year-old is always remembered for his brilliant burst of speed to win at Ascot last season but he has since to make the money in three Group starts. He was a touch unlucky when fourth in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot and then again got no run behind Breton Rock when back up to this trip in the Lennox.

It’s an intriguing renewal of the of the Hungerford, live on Sky Racing 1 on Saturday night.
